Bonnie Bear Day Care was established in 2020 and following a huge refurbishment, first opened its doors in 2021 and is proving a popular choice for childcare in the area. Bonnie Bear Day Care is going from strength to strength and has already established a great reputation across Liverpool. The business was set up in loving memory of the owners Hayley & Charlie’s baby girl, Bonnie Murtagh, who they sadly lost in February 2020 and later that year Bonnie Bear Day Care was established.

Hayley and Charlie set out looking for a nursery and for something new and exciting to focus on following the loss of Bonnie and was lucky enough to find the amazing building which was once the well-known pub “The Plough” on Rice Lane. They then took on the challenge to convert the pub into a nursery and have created a modern, yet home from home environment for all children aged 12 weeks to 5 Years old. 

In addition to our main day care facilities, Bonnie Bear Day has expanded into offering Breakfast, Afterschool and Holiday Club Provision within a newly built facility on the same grounds of the nursery.

Hayley and Charlie are passionate about delivering the highest quality childcare at locally competitive rates for children aged 0-5 years old. The safety, welfare and happiness of the children in their care will always be their number one priority.

At Bonnie Bear Day Care, Our Ethos is “Where play meets purpose.” This means that while children are having fun, they are also learning and developing important skills every single day.

We follow a simple Plan, Do, Review cycle to make sure each child gets the best start possible. We plan with purpose, creating activities based on your child’s interests, needs, and stage of development. During play, we carefully support and observe children so we can understand what they are learning and what they might need next. We then assess and review with purpose, making sure each child continues to grow, progress, and feel confident in their learning.

Our pedagogical approach is simply the way we choose to teach and support children’s learning.

We follow a hybrid approach, combining child-led play with adult-led learning experiences. This means children have the freedom to explore their own interests, while our experienced practitioners carefully guide, support, and extend their learning at the right moments.

All activities both child and adult led are planned with purpose and linked to the learning goals within our bespoke Bonnie Bear-rilliant Curriculum, which we share with families through the Famly app. We regularly assess children’s progress and observe their individual development, using this information to plan meaningful next steps that support every child to grow, develop, and thrive.

Our Bonnie Bear-rilliant curriculum is specially designed for Bonnie Bear children and is carefully linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This ensures that your child’s learning is age-appropriate, well-structured, and prepares them for the next stage of their journey—while still feeling relaxed, playful, and enjoyable.

At Bonnie Bear, play is never “just play” – it is meaningful, nurturing, and helps your child thrive.

Our vision is for every child to leave Bonnie Bear with their “Bonnie Bear Backpack”—filled with the knowledge, skills, and confidence gained through our carefully planned learning experiences. This ensures each child is happy, independent, and fully school-ready, prepared for the next stage of their journey.

Our environment is carefully planned and adapted to take account of children’s interests and stages of development and are designed to be exciting and stimulating in order to facilitate the highest levels of engagement in play and learning.
